We love music. We cannot live without music. We savor each opportunity to brighten someone's
day with music. We enjoy each other's company and push each other to be the best we can be. Each of us has strengths
that compliment the trio in many ways. We have experience from various backgrounds but each of the trio members has
been steeped in chamber music since early college days. Chamber music presents a unique opportunity to practice interdependence:
Independence in that we must each play our individual part well; Dependence in that we rely on each other to fit together,
get the feel of the music, and be sensitive to the subtleties of the music.
We are constantly adding
new arrangements to our repertoire. Thanks to the internet, we have an infinity of music to play with. Since flute-clarinet-bassoon
is not a common trio, we often find ourselves adapting trios for various other instruments to be played on ours. This
works particularly well with renaissance, boroque, and classical repertoire. Concertos, trio sonatas, even piano music
is well-suited for woodwind trio. Many string trios and quartets work well in a woodwind setting.
Jennifer,
Hallie, and Sabrina have been playing together in the Asheville Lyric Opera and other local groups for several years.
After two years playing in the ASO woodwind quintet, we found out it's a whole lot easier to get 3 schedules to match than
it is to get 5. So in June of 2009 Nightingale Trio formed with only a few arrangements and transcriptions. Currently
our book is over 2 inches thick with everything from Hook to Hindemith to Hallie's arrangement of "Amazing Grace."
I wonder how thick the book will be by this time next year??
We rehearse about once a week in Asheville, more when
we have a performance, less when we have too much other stuff going on. We love to busk in downtown Asheville sporting
tie-dyed shirts and blue jeans, and we also love to dress in concert attire and play for the most refined musical connoisseur.
We love the classics, as well as new age, jazz, and folk music. We've even been known to play a Michael Jackson song
or two...
